Ok, so no references to the Empty Child in Moffat's awesome two-parter...
well, 'cept for the fact that everybody lives.
But that's a theme in all of Moffat's stories (well, except Girl in the Fireplace). Also, it's a bit more tenuous this time, as "everybody lives," but for 5 of them, only inside a computer. I guess because they weren't entered into the computer through the teleport buffer, the teleporters can't be used to ressurect them.

"Everybody lives" might end up getting tedious if Moffat goes out of his way to keep it in most of his stories, but I'll take it anyday over RTD's method of going out of his way to kill off a percentage of Earth's population equal to the percentage of pie he had eaten while writing the story.

EDIT: Oh, duh, the square nose gun. Hmmmmm...

So yeah, just saw ep 12 there...

and allow me to present RTD's guide for writing a season (series) finale: (though he kinda broke it in season 2, but not too much)
  1. Get one of the series' Big Bads to attack Earth.
  2. Reiterate all the hints you threw in during the entire season (and all the ones you didn't, but they were happy coincidences) to show you planned it this way from the beginning, even if you really didn't.
  3. Eat a percentage of a pie.
  4. Kill that percentage of Earth's population off.
  5. Kill off a few important people.
  6. Make everything look really hopeless.
  7. Activate the Deus Ex Machina Du Jour and roll things back towards the status quo.
  8. Finish eating pie.
  9. Hate self for eating pie, resolve to be even harder on fat people next season (series).

Since he can't do the last step this time, I expect he'll get his fatty hate on during the Christmas episode if he writes it. Anyway, let's see how right I am this weekend, shall we?
