saw it, I was kind of expecting it to be AMAZING, but it was more like just pretty good.

was expecting more sexual tension between Holmes and Watson.

I've read most of 'em. They are nothing like this movie. For the most part, they are intensely dull.

Yeah, I got a Sherlock Holmes audio book for a buck... it's hard to listen to. ACD loved his exposition.

I actually have started reading them and I like them, too... just the short stories so far, though. I dunno.

well yeah, I do LIKE the Sherlock Holmes books, but they're not action-packed thrill rides, they're just "Oh wow, that's really neat, good job Sherlock!"

Arthur Conan Doyle.

See, I liked the movie because it was that "Oh, wow, really neat Sherlock" plus fighting and visuals which, while purists would probably argue dilute the character and the franchise, made me enjoy it more. And the original version of Holmes was a boxer and a proficient fighter, though probably not to the extent that they portrayed him to be.

Yeah, it's like this movie gave Sherlock Holmes a different interpretation without actually changing any of the characters.

Which I guess works completely well, because in all the Sherlock stories so far bar this one, we have Watson as the unreliable narrator. All Holmes mysteries may have gone down like this one, but Watson (or the Strand) may have cleaned them up for publication.
