I'm horrible at remembering how many flats/sharps are in scales. So I just cheat and use the fretboard layouts with the scales printed over them.
See, with Jazz scales, I'd actually be able to improvise, instead of just guessing which string I should pick next. I think I have a book with them in it. Maybe I'll check it tomorrow. Err, later today. |

| Man, I love the guitar. Ive been playing for 4 years, every single day. Ive never taken lessons though, i always that taking lessons would totally ruin my fun in playing, but im going to be in my highschool jazz band next year. I love Jamming out with all my friends, cause im tons better than them. I couldnt immagine my life with out any guitar, now that would be really boring. |

Ka-Bump.
I haven't practiced in like, a month or two. The school band bassist was just arrested for possession, I heard, so I want to join. The catch? I need to be able to read sheet music. Does anyone know where I could learn how to do such a thing? I need a dvd, program, book, something. |

Nah, that's my wife's job. I actually want to learn to play sheet music.
I used to be able to play trombone sheet music. |

It's pissing down with rain here! Yes!
bass clef. the notes are:
lines (from the bottom to the top): Great Big Dogs Fight Animals
spaces (from the bottom up): All Cows Eat Grass
I'd recommend taking some theory lessons. If your school has a good music dept and provides lessons then they should have a theory teacher. If not, ask a decent classically trained piano teacher. Or just ask your bass teacher.
I would prefer to learn off a teacher than to teach myself, but you know, whatever floats your boat. _________________ |

Also; if you're any good at improvising off chords you probably don't really need to read music. Most jazz music will have the chords written in so if you just do a simple walking bass on most songs you'll be fine. _________________ |

I'd definitely recommend buying a book that teaches you how. Even if you take lessons it will still be useful.
I'm still working on Lamb of God - Laid to Rest because I haven't been able to play at the right speed without messing up. It's always on the second part of the first riff too. |

Get the sheet music and transpose it all into tablature. The internet can teach you how.
If you already know how to read sheet music, you'll want a chart of your bass' neck, so you can learn where the notes are located. Who the hell were you taking lessons from, that you didn't learn any of this? |

We couldn't afford the teacher any more.
Probably not a terrible thing, he wasn't the best teacher. All he'd ever do is teach me how to correctly play songs from a book I brought in, or listen to my music and fix fan-made tablature. |
