12 people are dead due to the current heatwave. And here in the East bay area of California, it's 85. It's going to get hotter here. There is a Spare the Air day scheduled for tomorrow, which is cool: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spare_the_Air_program

Most Transit systems are FREE. So tomorrow, I just may go to the beach

As of now I am currently sitting in my fully airconditioned bedroom/office also with a fan going. I have about a dozen otter pops in the freezer and am munching on them when i can. How do you try to cool off?

Is 85 degrees a heat wave there? Here it's been 95+ the last few days.

And it'll even get hotter, most likely, as the summer goes on.

Was just in Chicago last weekend, saw a Cubs game....very good thing we were in the shade, it was high 90s

Frankly, I have it pretty easy. I have an AC unit in my bedroom right above my bed, where I sleep through the relatively cool night until about 3:00pm. Then I drive to my air-conditioned workplace and stay until about 1am, when it's again relatively cool.

Last summer, though it was pretty bad. Me and my girl took some vacation time in August, but we couldn't afford to actually go anywhere, so we ended up looking for excuses to be out of our apartment. We ended up seeing several movies we weren't particularly interested in, and hanging out and reading in coffee shops sipping iced mochas and tchai.

The thing I like about living on an island is that the temperature doesn't change extreme amounts from summer to winter. The lowest we typically get here is -2º C (28º F) in winter and 15º to 20º C (59º to 68º F) in the summer. There's been unusually cold and warm days but for the most part it's somewhere within those numbers.

The rain and fog I don't like so much.
