So for those of you who don't know, I have kidney stones. The only problem is that if they are too big, I won't be able to pass them, meaning I have to get an x-ray to see how big they are. But not just any x-ray, a CAT scan. The doctor gave my mom a fleet prep kit which I was to use before the scan (and if you don't know what a fleet prep kit is, you don't wanna know). My mom found out via teh internets that there was an easier way of going about things, so we called the doctor's office and they said that there was no need for the prep kit. All I needed to do was drink some barium one night and an hour before my CAT scan the next day (it dyes the inside of my organs white). So last night I drank more than 8 oz of barium last night and another 8 oz this morning. Fun, I know. I get up there today and wait in a waiting room for almost an hour with this very flamboyent, yet apparently heterosexual guy and his son. Finally, they call me back. I get on the little bed and the woman tells me to pull down my pants so the zipper doesn't get in the way of the scan. Again, fun. Nothing I love better than pulling down my pants in front of people I don't know. Anyway, I'm sitting in the CAT scanning machine...thing...and she asks me if I drank barium before the scan. Apparently kidney stones are the exact same color as the barium, so they can't see anything. They tell my mom that I have to go get a fleet prep kit so that I can get the barium out of my system, but my mom and I both said no to that immediately. Now I have to go in again on Friday without any preperation at all. My mom's on the phone right now with the woman at the doctor's office that told her countless times that I had to drink barium. Long story short, I'm sick of all people.

This is why people should never listen to the women that work in the front office (most likely they are receptionists with minimal training at all, much less medical training!), and should almost always listen to their physician.

Sorry about your troubles, man. Being ill really sucks, but just remember, all of these horrendous exams and procedures are there to ultimately alleviate your problems. If you're still feeling uncertain about this office, maybe you should consider switching?

Regardless, I wish you luck and quick recovery, and I hope everything goes well. If it makes you feel any better, I bet your doctor got pretty pissed off at the woman who told you incorrect info!
