Not only was his music amazing, but the man himself was as well. Sadly, if you didn't already know, Elliott Smith passed away a couple years ago. I was lucky enough to have seen him live beforehand but it is upsetting that he is no longer around. I talked with him after the show I saw (in New Jersey sometime in June) because of the fact that only about 40 people were at that show. Other bands were playing, it was a big event (Field Day Festival). But Elliott wasn't playing in the same place as everyone else causing a big confusion. He still put on a great show. He was a pretty cool guy. If you have yet to hear his music I highly recommend you check him out.

Yeah, he put out some really good stuff. Also, he appeared on a Lois track that's definitely worth checking out.

Elliott Smith didn't "pass away". He stabbed himself in the chest TWICE. Before that, who would have guessed that Elliott Smith was a total badass? Like...

Yeah, but he still passed away. Even if by knife to chest twice. And he didn't even die then, he died in the hospital like an hour later. Certainly not a painless death..

I guess, but "passed away" seems to downplay the violence of his death. I associate "passed away" with old people who suffer from some sort of natural death, not with badass (folk-)rockstar deaths.

I have the Figure 8 album, just listened to it the other day and liked it more than I remembered liking it, but seriously, don't have much interest in the guy or his music.

He went to my college though. O_O
