I know that Ray and I do this. Anyone else make mixtapes? Sure, the casette is a dying format, but the mixtape is a special item. Making one is a craft. You're forced to physically find and compile the mix, and the time to complete it is at least the length of music you put on the tape. Still, so I don't have to deal with a dead topic, I'll keep it open to discussion of all mixes.

CDs + Tapes + iTunes playlists + Anything else allowed! Share your tips for makin' the things. Definitely share your mix lists!

I just made a tape for a certain friend. Hopefully she'll love it. Cool

Side A - "Spring Fevers."

1. Ben - You've Got Me Swingin'
2. Clash - Spanish Bombs
3. Exploding Hearts - Rumours In Town
4. Urchin - Blind Shell Attack
5. Ramones - Yea, Yea
6. Guitar Wolf - Sore Loser
7. Connie Dungs - Connie
8. Teengenerate - My GTO
9. Cleveland Bound Death Sentence - Baltimore
10. Broadways - Lake Michigan
11. Scared of Chaka - All My Friends Are Ghosts
12. Soul Side - X-Lion Tamer
13. Lifetime - I Like You Okay
14. Jawbreaker - Chesterfield King
15. Pink Razors - Spring Fevers

Side B - "Pink Houses."

1. Kid Dynamite - S.O.S.
2. Latterman - If Batman Was Real, He Would Have Beaten The Crap Out Of My Friends
3. Amateur Party - Staid, Intact
4. Avail - Pink Houses
5. Ted Leo & Pharmacists - Tell Balgeary, Balgury is Dead
6. Against Me! - Reinventing Axl Rose
7. Pretty Hot - Carlise
8. This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb - This Is What I Want
9. Mischief Brew - Roll Me Through The Gates Of Hell
10. Defiance, Ohio - Oh, Susquehanna!
11. Evil Robot Us' - How Picturesque

Tape-making tip taken from my recent LiveJournal entry:
Don't really fret over which tape manufacturer to go with since all tapes usually run for the same price, and you'll probably never run into anythng more than TDK, Maxell, or Sony. However, I usually keep two things in mind about brands. Maxell tapes are generally best in terms of quality and durability, with TDK right behind 'em. That shit'll last. Still, Sony tapes are even better; while their quality doesn't reach Maxell, they usually have about a minute and change of extra time on their reels. For instance, I just made a mix with a 60 minute label on the tape. To my great happiness, it had sides with 31 minutes and twenty seconds on 'em. It was a "fuckin' score!" moment, considering most other tapes will actually have slightly less than the advertised amount.

Word.

y'know, I never understood the meaning behind mixtapes.

And as for playlists, I usually just unleash the randomizer on a certain artist/album/entire music collection.

So yeah...
nothin' to contribute...

just... since you brought it up.

Well. This isn't so much a mixtape as a project but we had to make a 5 song soundtrack for The Iliad in my English class, and I narrowed it to 9. Here's my picks.

1. Andy Kaufman - Sage Francis
2. Warrior - Helloween
3. Snakes On A PLane - Cobra Starship
4. Plowed - Sponge
5. Achilles Last Stand - Led Zep
6. Ridin' - Chamillionair ft Krazie Bone
7. King of Kings - Motorhead
8. Ghost Love Score - NIghtwish
9. Awesome Bomb - Harry and the Slashtones

I am big on playlists, because I have issues about what order I listen to songs in. I have a huge Japanese playlist that has most all my Japanese music in a certain order that took me ages to get perfect. I can't list it here cause it's too big. But I do have a good section of it I really like:

Daisuke Asakura - Shining Collection-Iceman
T.M. Revolution - Invoke ( Phase Shift Armoured Version )
Maki Kirioka - Beyond the Bounds
Shuntaro Okina - Cloud Age Symphony
The Stripes - Open Your Heart ~Ten Made Todoke THE STRiPES Version~
Initial D - No One Sleep in Tokyo
CHEMISTRY - Now or Never
SOUL'd OUT - 1,000,000 Monsters Attack
X Japan - Silent Jealousy

Yeah, I did it for about 15 years. Then computers came out. Razz I do miss the warm analog sound though. But with tapes you worry about generations and loss, all that fun stuff.

And more on topic, I made a mix CD of some of my favorite stuff for Boyo a few Christmases ago. The actual playlist is on my other computer, so if anyone really wants to know what it was, I'll grab it.

Good stuff too. Smile

I'm rubbish at making mixes. I only listen to the same 3 bands anyway.
