I sent my friend your(ray) mix you(ray) made for the cd thing we did years ago when we all traded cds and such, and he fell in love with your(ray) taste in music and is now bugging me for more and I know you(ray) had put other playlists together, but I'm too lazy to find them. does someone know where those were and can link me to them. so I can link him to them.
okay thanks. _________________ Homsars Girl n. a bagpipe bent on engulfing the world in a mix of pepper and ketchup.

I make playlists every month that I burn to CDs for listening to in the car. As for mixes posted online... I don't think there currently are any. Tell your friend to pick a month or a particular band he likes and shoot me an email (raystraight@gmail.com) and I'll hook him up with some tunes. _________________ here comes the big ideas again, just like they did before and then,

Different strokes for different folks.
Though to be honest, I haven't heard Dirty Projectors. _________________ here comes the big ideas again, just like they did before and then,

it's ok, I haven't heard of any of those bands.
And there's a disturbing lack of Muse - The Resistance or Pomplamoose - VideoSongs on that list, so...
I guess I'm not cut out to be a hipster _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

Simple answer to your question: the internet. It seems like for every new band I've heard, there's a new way I found them. And for every band I've found that I like, I've found three more that I don't. Basically you just expose yourself to music and develop a taste. From that point, if you read/listen to what's being said about one band, there will be mentions of other bands and you can continue your music exploration. On top of that, I have heard the names of many, MANY bands that I've never listened to (like Flobots). You've got to know when to really enjoy what you do know and not over saturate yourself with more than you can listen to.
btw, here's the playlist that I ended up making for Ivy's friend:
1. we versus the shark - I am destined for greatness
2. apostle of hustle - national anthem of nowhere
3. the national - squalor victoria
4. cap'n jazz - oh messy life
5. make up - born on the floor
6. hot snakes - kreative kontrol
7. criteria - ride the snake
8. javelins - heavy meadows
9. thunderbirds are now! we win (ha ha)
10. enon - pleasure and privilege
11. bright calm blue - static
12. the russian futurists - you dot, me dot, t-dot
13. matt pond pa - the trees and the wild
14. the (international) noise conspiracy - capitalism stole my virginity
15. ambulance ltd. - ophelia
16. the helio seqence - the captive mind
17. reverie sound revue - walking around waiting downtown
18. the dismemberment plan - gyroscope
19. her space holiday - you and me
20. halloween, alaska - a new stain
21. the go find - monday morning
22. the american analog set - the kindness of strangers
23. the ivory coast - five little graves (2008 remix/remaster version)
24. a.c. newman - most of us prizefighters
25. nada surf - blankest year
26. cave in - jupiter _________________ here comes the big ideas again, just like they did before and then,

We should change Ray's title from 'myspace hero' to 'internet musicologist'. Or something like that. |

hey Ray, do any of those songs feature an electronic instrument with a built-in arpeggiator... arpeggiating?
I'm a sucker for those. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck
