Have you been assigned to read anything over the summer for school?

My list:
Huckleberry Fin - Mark Twain
Some really long book for A.P. US that I don't know the name of

And a book by each of the following authors:
Nikky Finney
Kelly Norman Ellis
Frank X. Walter
Wendell Berry
Sallie Bringham
James Baker Hall
Bell Hooks
Mary Ann Taylor-Hall
Barbara Kingsolver
George Ella Lyon
Bobbie Ann Mason
Fredrick Smock
Sena Jeter Naslund
Gayl Jones
Gurney Norman
ZZ Packer
Chris Offutt
Crystal Wilkinson

I have less than a month to read the last 18. We're going to be compairing their writing styles at GSA. I'm so going to die.

I fucking hated Huck Finn. I liked last year's summer reading, where I read all the books on the list except for one. The four books also were some of my favorite books ever.

I haven't gotten my summer reading yet. Heck, I just got orientation information today. They have MST3K as an orientation activity... I want to do that or Japanese/Chinese Martial Arts. \m/

Meh. They just want us to read the giver. Great book, but a little short for the whole summer. It's a novella.

I know Mark Twain is a genius, it's just that I don't personally like his writing. In terms of fiction, I tend to swing to more modern stuff... I like Vonnegut at the least.

Though I will say that I really think the Giver's overrated. If you want dystopia, read a real dystopia. Fahrenheit 451 is one of my favorite books ever... I know people who hate it, but I heart Bradbury.

Fahrenheit 451 was a wonderful book. I remember being sad about what happened to Clarisse. Devastated.

MY GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS MARK TWAIN'S BEST FRIEND.

I TAKE OFFENCE TO THAT, FRU.

I have to reread the Odyssey and write an essay on Homer's use of 'women power' or something.

Yeah, Bradbury's good. I've read Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, and quite a few of his short stories.
