It wasn't intended to be... it's not the nature of the people, it's just that region. Most of the muslims and arabs that are not living in the middle east are perfectly normal people.
And heck, a lot of the non-arabs and non-muslims down there in the middle east are ALSO killing each other. It's the region! What I meant by monkeys with guns is that the way they seem to think down there, they should still be fighting with swords, not guns and bombs.
And then there's the problem that the terrorist groups flocking to Iraq want to keep us there. If they get wind of any timetable, they'll probably plan a large attack right before we're supposed to pull out and wreck the whole thing. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

Okay, point taken. I guess "racist" was the wrong word - I should have used "ethnocentric." Thank you, anthro 101. Think about what values you are using to judge these groups of people, and where those values come from, man. I mean, what do you mean by "normal"? Closer to our American values? Realize that there are tons of people in America who kill others senselessly everyday. Killing has no direct causation from region, race, gender, religion, whatever. (Although it may, admittedly, have correlation...)
Well, whatever, I suppose this isn't really the purpose of this thread, and I tend to go on crazy tangents that don't really go anywhere when I start talking about this (as evidenced here), so I'll shut up.
Regardless, I never support killing in any situation (especially political), so I think everybody is wrong. The American attitude of "fighting for freedom" is extraordinarily misguided, and I don't consider our "justified" or "noble" killings any more reasonable than what we like to label as "terrorism" in Iraq, Afghanistan, here in the US, or any other country.
Meh, no one wants to hear my Gandhi stuff. I'll stop before I start quoting Satyagraha in South Africa...

Certainly it was ethnocentric, but it was extremely racist, too. When you refer to a "monkeys with guns 'culture,'" that implies that you are talking about a group that you regard not only as worse than yourself, but as less than human. It doesn't matter what the intention was, that's what that statement says. If you had wanted to say, "They should be using swords, not guns," then you would have. That wasn't what you said.
On another note, if you want to argue that it's not "racist" because you only view people from a certain region as less then human, fine, but I fail to see how that's better. _________________ Married to Terri.

okay, you're right. I didn't mean monkeys with guns...
And I don't view people FROM a region as culturally backward, I view people IN that region as culturally backward.
I was saying that their culture is what ours was like during the crusades. We had swords back then, and swords are hard to kill masses upon masses of people with. They have guns and bombs.
...
I don't even know what I mean. I think I may have just mouthed off the deep end with this one. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

... no, it's not. not at all. seriously.
I have heard one of your complaints being that they wear the same clothes as they had since the crusades (thus meaning supposedly that they never advanced), and that is true to an extent, Arabs have worn almost identical clothing since the 5th century BC. their only changes have been material and some western influence... the reason for this is because unlike us, they got it right on first try, and their clothes perfectly fit the climate. _________________

That reminds me of that crazy "humans are 'more evolved' than chimps" argument. Basically, it is misconception and, well... completely inaccurate.

yeah, the clothes thing wasn't the only "evidence" I presented, though.
basically, they're killing each other all the time over there, and that's wrong.
And if they're that full of hate over there that they're killing all the time, we shouldn't trust them with weapons more powerful than swords. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck
