but why executed? what difference to you does it make if theyre rotting in an 8x10 cell or dead? what difference does it make to anyone?

And if they're rotting in a cell, they're still alive, and there's still a chance that some wacko supporter group will get them out somehow or at least try. When they're dead, there's nothing anyone can do about that.
But since you said it doesn't make any difference to you if they're dead, then why do you care so much?

i never said that. it makes difference to me, because i am against killing...barbaric, a meaningless way to symbolize justice, blah blah blah. im wondering why you are so compelled with killing people via the death penalty, when in the end it's meaningless whether they're alive or dead.

american military deaths by war (killed in action, not disease):
world war ii - 407,300
world war i - 126,000
revolutionary war - 8,000
mexican american war - 13,271
civil war - 120,000 (union)
civil war - 95,000 (confederate)
vietnam - 58,209 (that's total, i couldn't find just a combat stat)
war of 1812 - 2,260
OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM which is definitely not a civil war- about 3,000
not that i support the war, but where did you get that from? or did i misunderstand you?

in which case it probably still isn't as high as the amount of confederate casualties during the civil war
