I agree with Sharp. You have the classic one that's been proven and tested, but I don't care what you say; if your smile is cut into your face with a fuckin' razor blade, not only are you a baddass, you've probably got the creepiest smile on the face of the earth. It kind of surprises me that a lot of you all dislike it. I mean, I expected ITS to not like it since he doesn't have a soul, but not folks like Riley and Otogi really did catch me off guard.
This Joker also fits well with the current tone that they're trying to get across with the movies. It's supposed to be more realistic and darker, referencing what Frank Miller started when he wrote The Dark Knight Returns. This Joker adds to that gritty, creepy atmosphere. The Glasgow smile also gives him a better excuse why his grin is so huge as opposed to, "I fell in some chemicals, saw my reflection and snapped."

Sorry, fiend. Not digging the whole cut-up-face idea. It's out of sync with who the joker is: an extreme sadist, not a masochist. The joker has always been all about style... panache, is the word, I think. The gore element doesn't work with that.
A good way to make the Joker more dark and sinister would be to include Quinn. Harley Quinn is an outlet for the sexual side of the Joker's sadism. It's hinted at in the comic, but almost always it's approached very subtly. Fully unmasking this facet of the Batman mythos would probably be more effective than angsty self-mutilation, as far as making the Joker more visceral.

also, self-mutilaters don't make good villans 'cause all they do is sit around and loathe themselves. They're introverted, and judging by the gallon of black paint around his eyes, he's going to be a huge whiny waste of life like all the angsty teenagers you see at Hot Topic picking out pre-ripped fishnet shirts they can wear over their pre-ripped pre-faded undershirts with cigarette burns pre-cut into them and have the sleeves pre-stained with fake blood on their forearms just so they can look disaffected and world-weary.
