Who's running for him or her?
Backwards question. He or she is obviously a Democrat. And is running for president.
I kid, of course.
For those politically inclined, especially for those who have a different political outlook than I do (ITS), I'm wondering if the list that this thing generated was close to the list that you may have personally had in mind. I find mine to be, uh... interesting. |

And it says I'm most likely to vote McCain. That's probably to be expected. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

Ok... fair enough.
I guess where I'm coming from is this; does the ranking that you (or anyone) was given match up with your own perceptions of the candidates?
I was pretty deliberate about my answers on the website, to the point that I *knew* I was eliminating Kucinich from my list. I support his opinions (generally) but not his approach, and my answers reflected that. Yet he ended up being my number 1.
Anyone else have similar thoughts? |

As for Kucinich, I give him props for being not riding the fence. He's very liberal, and wants people to vote for him based upon his views. I really respect that, even though he's got zero chance of ever winning.
I think it's sad that our system is such that all campaigning is an act of deception, where candidates strive to make themselves appealing, rather than making their case and hoping the people are with them. |

I attempted to vote my opinions, but I know on some issues I have a pretty sketchy, wishy-washy way of thinking: fair trade is good but I have no clue how it is defined by most people--it seems to be a subjective definition, and is a fair trade product actually a better product? how do we know that the products from fair trade are actually fair, how are they accountable, etc. There should be a reduction of forces in Iraq but it should not come at the expense of lack of security in Iraq, we were the ones that threw them into a terrible situation and we got ourselves stuck there; reduce the forces but maybe not a complete pullout until things are relatively stable--that is, if the soldiers are a welcome presence and are not inciting violence by their being there. I don't know too much about the conditions in Iraq. I do think we went there for all the wrong reasons and we should have looked more closely at why we were there in the first place.
Our system really is pathetic.
I think a fresh face is a good thing for these elections, but that shouldn't come from lack of experience and youth and idealism, I'd rather see someone with more experience outside the establishment than someone who has only been in the establishment for a short amount of time.
I'm liberal but I want to evaluate my positions, see what the opposition has to say, and then make a decision. I don't want to automatically go with the person who toes the line the most. I respect Kuchinich, but from what little I know he seems like a very alienating figure thanks to his politics (which I do respect him for) and who knows how much he could actually accomplish. Obama seems like a nice guy and I like his ideas but I still know very little about how he works and he's only worked at the national level for a short amount of time. Can he actually translate those ideas and high talk into real progress and change, that's the question.
edit // I said "free trade" somewhere when I meant fair. It be corrected. _________________

| Fru, you sound like the right kind of voter. We've got a long time to listen to these guys and their ideas, and scrutinize their records, to make a really informed decision. |

Thank you!
I'll be voting for the first time in 2007 and 2008 will be my first presidential election. I would've liked to have voted in last year's election but my voter registration did not make it out in time (I have an October birthday and waited until the day I turned 18 to register, and I wasn't able to get my hands on an absentee ballot as a result). I think it's important to vote but I think that when you're voting, you really should know what the fuck is going on, and try to vote not only by party lines, but think critically about what you're voting for.
There are gaps in my knowledge that I'll fully admit to but I am not nearly as bad as a lot of people.
I keep on meaning to read conservative publications instead of say, the New York Times and Time magazine, just so I can get a slightly different perspective. _________________
