here we go
seats were way up there
the place was filled up all the way to the top eventually-- there were another 20-30 rows behind me, too
will ferrell did a short opener where he ripped off a michigan sweatshirt and has an MSU one underneath, then some cheap laughs with a bunch of ninjas coming out, blaring techno music, and fake fighting. then instead of going with nick swardson, the easiest transition from frat comedian will ferrell, galifianakis leads off. the crowd was definitely there to see ferrell, so i think they were a little confused. his early jokes got chuckles, but once the crowd warmed up to him, he got the most laughs by far.
the only non-blurry shot of galifianakis i got, in his annie bit. his piano was blocked by equipment from where we were :\
demetri was next, coming out with the guitar. he was slightly above average as usual, and i laughed pretty often.
then ron burgandy came out. he wandered around for a solid 5 minutes to applause until surprise guest and MSU basketball coach tom izzo came out for an interview.
it was pretty good for something he seemed to make up as he went along. he asked izzo if he was technically a dwarf.
then nick swardson came out. he played with his terri voice a little, then did some standard college comedian jokes. he wasn't bad, but pretty hit or miss. he did some unfunny old people jokes, but i laughed at some other stuff. he was kind of a storyteller like dane cook, except he didn't scream, he wasn't annoying, he wasn't as much of a douchebag, and his jokes had punchlines.
then ferrell came out dressed like a retard, then everyone came out dressed the same. i moved around and got a shot of zach at the piano. they did a really unfunny song bit, and it didn't seem like something galifianakis would willingly be a part of. i don't think he was actually playing the piano for the song, he leaned back a few times and clearly wasn't doing anything while it played. the person on the far right was some bullshit promoter for funnyordie.com, the sponsor of the tour. she did an annoying video bit between galifianakis and demetri.
galifianakis told almost all old material but i still laughed. he changed a few parts of old jokes around to keep them fresh. he did a few new characters:
the redneck who can't say a certain word in a masculine voice
"hey can i get uhh pack of cigs, some beef jerky and uhh...some [gay voice]skittles[/gay voice]"
the guy who thinks everything in his pocket is his phone-- he just pulled out an altoids box and let them spill, then said "i can barely hear you" into the box against his ear
and the guy who messes up the sound cue during a reading of edgar allen poe's "the tell-tale heart"
"I scarcely breathed. I held the lantern motionless. I tried how steadily I could maintain the ray upon the eye. Meantime the hellish tattoo of the heart increased. It grew quicker and quicker, and louder and louder every instant. The old man's terror must have been extreme! It grew louder, I say, louder every moment!"
while he reads this, a heartbeat gets increasingly louder in the background. then, during the climax, it morphs into a techno beat. it's hard to write that one down over a message board. he let it play for awhile and said, "i wish i had the balls to just let that play for 30 minutes"
the only jokes i never heard were
"i want to open a store for crossdressers and call it 'susan, b. anthony"
"i wear a lot of axe body spray, but when i go to black neighborhoods it's called ask body spray. and if you don't get that joke, you're not racist"
i think there were a couple others i can't remember
all in all it was a lot of fun
i hope you enjoyed My Post about it _________________

ferrell just did little skits inbetween and some funnyordie.com whoring. he rode around in an electric wheelchair and took questions from the crowd for awhile. i remembered another one of galifianakis' opening jokes, obviously trying to get the crowd to warm up to him a little:
"so i was on cnn.com today and that kid that had sex with his teacher died...*lots of woos and shit from the crowd*...yeah, it said he died of high fiving"
really easy joke, i thought, but everyone loved it. i giggled, but he definitely knew his crowd
oh, and there was an honest to god streaker after some guys kept yelling "LET'S GO STREAKING" during a ferrell skit. the crowd as a whole was pretty obnoxious throughout..it's easy to get away with it in such a huge place. _________________
