This thread really didn't turn out how I had hoped.
I'd like for you to read the links I provided and make a decision. _________________

The Anti-Christ article lumps all on Mithras what the Pro-Christ article says is spread around several deities.
But as the pro-christian article points out, most of the information we have about the pre-christian deities was made post-christ, and is thus "corrupted" by his influence.
And it also points out that Christ wasn't born on the winter solstice, that's just when Saturnalia was celebrated. Early Christians, not wanting to be persecuted, celebrated Christmas during Saturnalia.
Yes, many Christian traditions are borrowed from pagan rituals because of this habit of celebrating with them to remain inconspicuous, but the "borrowing" in the story of Christ probably happened the other way around... with Christ living out his life, his story being written down, and then the artists and historians looking into Mithras and other pagan deities unconsciously or perhaps even consciously throwing in bits of the Christ story.

Yes, thanks. I actually agree with you. Having been studying different ancient religions for some time now, I found most of the 'evidence' that the anti-Christian pagan sites wrote seemed to come from absolutely nowhere. For example, they claim that Horus and Dionysus were crucified... this is impossible, as crucifixion only rose up after the peaks of New Kingdom Egypt and classical Greece. As the pro-Christian site demonstrates, it would appear that the pagans stole from Christianity, rather than vice-versa. _________________

Because crucifixion is such a sophisticated way to kill someone. :/ _________________

Actually, it only appeared after 10th century BCE. There is no evidence for it appearing any earlier. Even then, it didn't become popular until five centuries later. Obviously, it's not the most complex of punishments, but other forms existed previously. Crucifxion is just popular because of Christianity. There were thousands of other ways to kill and torture people.
The Old Testament prophecy that Yeshua/Jesus would be crucified was written about 1300 BCE, 300 years before the first recordings of crucifixion. Evidence... fuck if I know, take it as you will. _________________

This thread's starting to go in a different direction, but I figured I'd toss this in real quick:
It makes no sense whatsoever to try and logically disprove the existence of a deity. Deities of modern religion, or at least the big three, are considered to transcend logic, since, y'know, they created it and all. Let's take the game Monopoly, for example. The guy who invented Monopoly doesn't follow Monopoly's rules. He doesn't move from street to street based on the roll of a die, and he doesn't go to jail simply for stepping into a designated zone. It flat out doesn't make sense for him to follow Monopoly's rules. Therefore, why would it make sense for a deity to follow the rules of logic that he/she created? _________________

well, chances are God is fifth-dimensional, and we, being only fourth-dimensional, can't percieve him. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

well... if fifth-dimensional logic is different from fourth...
linear logic seems to still work in temporal space.
But even if God isn't outside the realm of logic, he probably is outside the realm of perception.
Our perception. Maybe we can make a machine that can percieve 5 dimensions... only problem being that it could tell us the unalterable future and create time paradoxes, so I don't think we'll ever actually be able to invent it. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck
