Oh, I did forget to mention that I've never played Perfect Dark and I've only played a little bit of Goldeneye, so my statements about their quality are based largely on hearsay.
so that means you're wrong.
No, it really doesn't. My point that impact and influence is not equal to quality still stands. If you want I can supply a different example and the same point can be made. The only way I could be "wrong" is if you think that Goldeneye is superior to Perfect Dark based on quality alone, impact and importance aside. Since Perfect Dark took the graphics up a notch and added the whole secondary function thing (again I have no personal experience here, but I'm having a difficult time imagining how that could be a bad thing), it seems like it'd be difficult for Goldeneye to trump it without the nostalgia and impact factors, both of which shouldn't be considered when solely judging the game's quality. But like DJ said, it is an opinion. _________________

the difference between perfect dark and goldeneye is like the difference between super mario 64 and the re-released ds version. although the ds version trumped the 64 version in more ways than one, which had you going "this is mind blowingly awesome" the first time? which did you get more hours and fun out of? obviously, for those who played the original, it's that one...but for the youngsters who played the new version, they'd probably pick that one.
and id pick playing bond over some generic scifi chick any day. _________________

Actually, I wasn't too hot on the DS version. Not because it was a "rehash," just because of the terrible control scheme. I'm not too sure whether it was actually a bad control system or if I just couldn't work it right doesn't really matter. Had it been released as say a free promotional GCN game or something, I would've been all over it and I would have loved it.
Anyway, it's a moot point. I understand that there's something to be said about playing something that's a totally new experience. My point is that Perfect Dark is really the exact same as Goldeneye, just technically better regardless of which you prefer, and a list of the highest quality games of all time shouldn't be the same as a list of the most ground-breaking or influential games of all time. If they were, then like I said, Pong would be number one. _________________

but pong's a ripoff of tennis. Katamari is more original than Pong, since nothing like that happens in real life. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

Uh, i doubt it. how influential could pong possibly have been?
anyway, another reason goldeneye was superior is because by the time perfect dark rolled around, there were TONS of goldeneye clones, and by that point it was unoriginal and actually kind of boring. it took away from the game for me.
plus, isnt this list a "readers choice'? as in, whichever game they selected was how they felt when they played it? i feel the mass amount of people who played goldeneye would probably vote for it above perfect dark.

...It was the very first video game. It's the grandaddy of 'em all. It paved the way for other games to be made. You don't get any more influential than that.

I'm not necessarily talking about this list. I'm just saying that if you wanted to be accurate in making a list that ranks quality and not influence, you should, well, not let influence be a factor, or at the very least not a major one.

well, being first doesnt exactly influence tons of people to MAKE THE SAME PRODUCT. i guess it's influential, but you didnt see too many games elaborating off of pong after its release. _________________
