Basically you think of odd reasons why this chicken wants to cross the road. I'll go first:

He sees his a billboard featuring a picture of what is unmistakebly his brother, except deep-fried.

He never actually wanted to get across. It was attempted suicide, but, at the lack of a better phrase, he "chickened" out while halfway across.

Years before the road was built, this entire area was home to the C.F.K chicken family. This chicken in question is a long descendant of these chickens and out of a sense of yearning came back to his homeland in search of clues to his families past. However, when the chicken (which i'll call Bob) came back to his homeland, he found man, roads and a building named K.F.C. This K.F.C building was on the same side of the road as Bob, but there was a Guns and Ammunition store on the other side of the road. The K.F.C building was a standing mockery to the C.F.K chicken family and so Bob vowed to destroy the standing Humilation once and for all and with that in his mind he crossed the road to obtain some weapons for his assault.
This is why Bob, our chicken crossed the road, but his final mission in life didn't succed because after he left the guns store and started across the road to the K.F.C building, he was ran over by a K.F.C transport truck. Thats Irony for you.
