I'd rather just buy a mag with a demo disc than take up space on my compy.

seriously, if you're that opposed to getting a decent computer, at least get an Intel mac and dual-boot. |

The Mac version was actually supposed to be out last month, so I'd expect it pretty soon. _________________ Married to Terri.

according to this it's coming out this month, so I'm really excited
its I have an intel mac but does it take up a lot of space to have two operating systems running on the same computer? _________________ "Fudge, Packer?" |

Chances are OSX would've eaten it up without telling you about it anyway.
Okay, so I sound harsh, but I installed OSX on a 20 GB hard drive... and if the 6 GB initial install size wasn't bad enough, it was up to 10 GB by the end of the first day. I have to wrestle with it to keep it from consuming the whole drive... and my music and video files are stored on other drives, so don't tell me it's that. I made sure iTunes wasn't copying the library to the main drive... but seriously, OSX is like an overfed goldfish... it just keeps expanding.
So yeah, Windows XP only takes up like 2 GB... how much hard drive space do you have, anyway?
and hey, you can always buy another hard drive for cheap and install it in addition to the one you already have in there.
Well, on a PC you can. It's notoriously hard to upgrade Macs... dunno if that's changed recently. |

I will agree with you on that. I love the mac, but my hard drive has completely dissapeared. yeah I have a whole lot of music and movies on it, but there's like 20 gigs that I have no idea where they went. I got the middle level macbook pro which started out with 100 gig and now I'm down to about 10. I really don't know where it all went _________________ "Fudge, Packer?" |

it just goes sssssssssshlup... eaten up like magnetic spaghetti.
unfortunately, if you have a macbook, you can't add another hard drive.
let's see... a 100 GB hard drive should be fine for dual or even triple booting... but you'll have to unclamp Mac OSX's tentacles from it before you can use it, though. It can be dangerous partitioning a hard drive that's been used for a while, you might lose some data. I recommend getting a nice external drive to back stuff up on before you try dual-booting... heck, even if you don't try dual-booting, it'll give you a place to offload your movies and music so Mac OSX has more space to fill.
You could also try uninstalling your excess printer drivers... Apple decided that rather than force you to undergo the grueling process of installing the single printer driver you need, they'd just pack in all the drivers for all the printers they know, which come with complete full-size images of each printer to sit in the dock. The drivers take up over a gig all by themselves. Apple also installed a whole bunch of languages you'll never be able to read. Take them out, and if memory serves, you'll reclaim another gig and a half. Make sure iTunes doesn't copy things to its own library, that's just asking to eat space. What else did I do...
hmm...
well, iLife projects are big space-wasters. Put 'em on external drives. I had a 4 minute movie end up filling over 5 GB of space before I was done with it... and it was made from maybe 50 minutes of source clips. It shouldn't end up being that big... but I think iMovie transcodes it to the highest quality format possible to ensure nothing is lost... well, nothing 'cept hard drive space. Any old iLife projects? Delete them. Apple doesn't care much for compression apparently. I'll have to check, but I think even the one project in iDVD took up 3 more GB than it should've.
And there's another thing. iDVD puts the movies on in highest quality... it doesn't compress them at all to allow you to put more on. I've been able to cram 3 hours of video onto a single-layer DVD-R before, but iDVD will only let me put on 1.5 hours. What's their problem at Apple, huh?

Probably 'cause those universal binaries pack in the code for every possible architecture when you only need one. |

Here, have a game demo.
Well, it's actually a full game... but it's neat anyway.
And cool art. |

You just can't help but ramble on about a Mac any time it's even mentioned.
Unreal Tournament 2004
I used to play this demo a lot, its pretty fun. You can play online. It's 282 MB though.
...Except for on the Mac. It's 58.6. _________________ secret agent super dragon |
