Personally, I'm terrified of horrible nuclear death, and think that nuclear power is far too risky, even if it's controlled.
I also hate how there's 3 nuclear plants within 200 miles of where I live. THREE.

Anyways, it may be clean and efficient, but it DOES leave nuclear waste, which has an incredibly long half-life, some of which is over thousands of years.

Not too mention nuclear meltdown. All it'd take is a single stray neutron, and bam, deadly chain reaction.
Maybe the control rods could stop working.
Or it could simply overheat.

In any case, I don't like the idea of risking a nuclear crisis just for tons of energy.

well, if we don't switch to cleaner power plants, we get a future like Sharp's.

And I know that *I* certainly don't want to put lettuce in boxes all day.

In all honesty, I'm in-between.

The future of nuclear power is in pebble bed reactors. Go look 'em up.

besides, Nuclear power plants aren't as dangerous as you think. They've been around since what, the mid-50s? and there've only been two or three disasters, all of which were due to improper maintenance.
Nuclear meltdown does not equal nuclear explosion.

Well, that's not the danger. The problem is that we can't keep stockpiling nuclear waste. The waste is the part that's too damn dangerous.

We can always fire it at the sun or a black hole and see what happens.

Or just start drinking it until we get lucky and become a race of Supermen.

I'm serious, go look up Pebble Bed Reactors. They never get hot enough to meltdown, for one. Two, instead of being stored in rods, the uranium is stored in graphite balls (pebbles), so it's easy to move and store.

we don't have ways of disposing of nuclear waste now, but we are working on it. The stuff isn't indestructible.

Of course, launching it into space isn't a good option, 'cause what happens if something goes wrong and the rocket explodes on the way up?

Bad.

also, just because black holes suck in everything doesn't mean you should ever throw your trash in there.

Of course, if we harness the power of fusion, we'll have unlimited power.

...no
just... safer power... with no threat of meltdown, no threat of explosions (when harnessed) and helium as waste.

Well, if we could fuse atoms, we could take those, split them, reuse them, and so on.
