This might be more of a North American thing, since "American" or "Canadian" don't necessarily hold a lot of weight as far as heritage goes. Here is a thread to discuss personal lineage. Ancestry, like it or not, is one of the things that defines who you are.

i'm more "in touch" with the irish side mostly because my dad's family, the polish side, is more, erm, trashy.

also thanks for being vaguely the same nationalities as i since that made the whole little flag thing so much easier \m/

i feel as if i come from two of the most boring european cuisines. that's the first thing i think of when i think nationality.
every holiday dinner with my mom's side of the family we always have at least two kind of potatoes.

I have no idea. There's the possibility of one of my ancestors coming from Norway. Another story is that one ancestor settled here from England, but didn't return to England before his contract ended, so he was stuck in America.

"Heritage" is important, but overblown. Interesting, though.
