Okay, so the word "blog" is something that sounds like onomatopoeia for throwing up, but I read 'em, and you probably read 'em too.
Anybody have any blogs that they follow regularly? I read You And Me (Reggae, in Portuguese), Scar Stuff (Halloween-type stuff), and Alejandeath (Metal). I also check WFMU's Beware of the Blog pretty much every day.

Pitchfork, I guess, for the new music. Oh, and the Hype Machine pulls songs from all kinds of blogs into once place. _________________

Since the thread didn't go very far, I'm updating it to include sites you read regularly for criticism. If you're like me (and that would be awesome), you read music reviews all the damn time. These are the ones in my bookmark toolbar that I find informative:
AV Club
Popmatters
Stylus
Cokemachineglow
Punknews.org
I've poked around for a decent site for heavy metal reviews, and been pretty disappointed. I guess I'll just have to keep my subscription to Metal Maniacs. |

music reviews are tough to read. ill usually look into a record in pitchfork's BEST NEW MUSIC though, despite how terrible their reviews are _________________

Yeah, the main problem I have with most reviews is that they're TOO LONG. Especially when someone somehow manages to review an album without telling me whether a) what this album sounds like, b) what some standout tracks are, and c) what sort of artists are comparable. Thanks, Pitchfork, for managing to consistenly publish extremely long "reviews" that tell me NOTHING. Usually I see what Pitchfork reviews, and then look somewhere else for reviews of it.
I mean, sometimes I like to hear a little history on a band... but just a little. I mean, if it's not an album I'm going to like (like, if it's an acoustic singer-songwriter album), I'd like to know that up front before I bother reading the whole history of a band I don't care about.
Maybe my preference for one-paragraph reviews comes from working at the radio station for so long, where the staff would write reviews for the new stuff coming in and tape them inside an album's case. A paragraph is about all you could squeeze in there, and that seemed to do the trick. So why waste everyone's time if you don't have to?
That's why I like the AV Club, or magazines. Their reviews are always concise. I wonder if the people at Pitchfork know that their reviews section is lousy compared to the back pages of Alternative Press? Shameful, really. |

yeah, the av club is the only "music blog" or review type site that i read. they always find great people to interview too. tom kenny had a great one, the creator of ren and stimpy did, the cast of superbad...lots of good stuff. _________________

If I "read" Blender then I "read" a lot of other junk magazines that get tossed into the recycle bin at work. _________________ here comes the big ideas again, just like they did before and then,
