So Microsoft just announced the Zune HD, which will obviously be competing with the iPhone and iPod Touch.
I know this forum's kinda dead-ish, but whatcha think?
Maybe this can just be a general Zune vs. iPod discussion now that both have been thoroughly established.
More thoughts later I guess, but I'm tired right now. The press release should be pretty easy to find.
No discussion about alternative mp3 players (DAVE), no one really gives a shit about them.
EDIT: Blahblahblah this forum is dead, etc. E3 started today. WHATCHOO FUCKERS THINK ABOUT IT?

I've had an iPod Touch for about a month now.
I'm not sure how good or bad a product the Zune HD will be, but I know Microsoft will spare no expense to fail at properly promoting their product. It's not gonna catch on.

in fact if it weren't for games and my unwillingness to get rid of old but perfectly useful computer equipment, I'd be Mac exclusive at this point.

E3 Shit: Things coming to 360:
Live TV: I'm not sure if I read before that this was going to be England only, or if it was just the "Sky" service partnership that was. Hopefully the latter. Hope it's free to gold members for at least normal broadcast channels, 'cause it'd be really cool to have a Live party and watch shows with friends. Maybe that feature will seep into Netflix for those Netflix viewing parties we were originally promised.
Last.Fm: Kinda cool I guess for people that aren't already acquainted with it. Unless they added a new feature or two I think I'd only use it if it were possible to listen to radio stations while playing a game.
Facebook: Meh, whatever. The only interesting thing I've read was capturing screens and uploading them to your profile.

Meh. If I can't tweet via the guide menu in-game then I don't care. Posting, "Just beat the boss!" seems unnecessary if you have to go back to the dashboard to do it. Why not just wait until you're at a computer or use a mobile device?

Uh, that video was whatever. EDIT: They changed the video in the post.
BUT. facial recognition to automatically sign you in seems really cool. So does navigating menus ala Minority Report. Even though this tech surpasses that of the Wii--not to mention that a company has developed a similar motion controller for 360 (and soon PS3?)--it still has the same kinds of obstacles as far as game software and demographic penetration, precision, etc, that the Wii has/had. It does look like the camera could be more precise than a Wiimote considering the full body tracking, but then again we haven't really seen a good representation of the Wii Motion-Plus yet. (Or at all? I can't remember.)
But the other applications for it like webcam-chat and voice recognition controls sound (hah) really cool. I'm not going to get it right away but I definitely will if there's enough (good) support for it. |
