the illegal underpaid immigrants work at Wal-Mart. This allows Wal-Mart to lower its prices... and K-Mart and Target and those can't, 'cause they pay at least minimum wage. So eventually, Wal-Mart will drive them out of business... and then Wal-Mart, now having a monopoly, can charge whatever the @#$@ they want. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

So the alternative is to sneak into our country illegally? I'm all for immigration, just not the illegal kind. |

Ok. It takes a long time to make a million dollars. So I should be allowed to rob a bank!

that's the irony, though... if they got a green card, they could work here for nice wages... but instead, they come in illegally and get paid dirt to do grunt work.
And they LIKE it. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

It's not easy to get documentation! They make it hard and lengthy in order to discourage potential immigrants, and that's what creates the illegal alien problem. If it was just a matter of filling out some papers, do you really think this would all be some big issue, with thousands of people circumventing the system? Do you really think illegals enjoy living in constant fear of the INS? |

Do they live in constant fear of the INS? Personally, I kinda doubt it, since people who don't have car insurance don't "live in constant fear" of getting a ticket for not being properly insured. Illegal immigrants are far less likely to face deportation than an uninsured driver is likely to face that ticket. It might worry them from time to time, but not much.
Heck, I've got a friend in California who has employed an "undocumented" immigrant as a maid for 15 years or so, and neither of them worries about it much. _________________

Overall, if you look at it another way, Americans are simply making it way too easy for illegal immigrants to find a life here. No other countries (or at least a high percentage) don't tolerate illegal immigrants, and deport them all immediately. However, now that America has just stood there and done nothing, we have millions of illegal immigrants, which would be wrongful to deport en masse; there is just too many of them now.
Just two weeks ago, someone got into a car crash in my neighborhood, and it turns out that the driver was an illegal immigrant; now his employer is getting into deep trouble, and he himself is getting deported. |

Y2K, it's not that we're just letting them in... it's just that the border between the US and Mexico is pretty darn big and it'd cost us way too much to put a border patrol agent per foot. Other countries don't have such a bad illegal immigration problem because
1. Smaller borders
2. Far less people trying to get in
if Mexico was more prosperous, then our illegal immigrant problem would drop considerably. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

Maybe if they weren't such lazy bastards and did it legally they wouldn't live in fear of the INS _________________ I'M A TARD |

Thank you Tony
I believe that people who come here through the border SHOULD take steps to become citizens. Those who dont should be deported. Simple as that. I'm not racist, but I believe thats the way it should be done. Regardless if it takes a year to become US citizens, they will be LEGAL citizens. _________________ MY BARF is TASTIER than Yours!!!
