the flashbacks are of a breakup, yes, but then it shows her locket, which she discards at the end, a typical sign of "getting over it"
the floating train came back for her, it didn't hit her.
the closest thing to a scythe I saw was a crescent moon.
and the last shot in the flash is a cliffside at dusk, where she discards the locket. The entrance to hell is behind her, she's not in it.
A crisis averted, maybe?
EDIT: Ok, I see the scythe... it's when the engineer cat stops the train before it hits her.

no, I hold that her locket is a picture of her ex-boyfriend, and she's sending her memories of him to hell. After all, why would she look at the locket right after thinking of the break-up?
And she and the engineer walk back together, which suggests that they're walking back to the train, which is directly behind them.
Also, her animal friends aren't sad in the least when they're waving goodbye, which tells me that the goodbye is temporary.
