Opera for the DS is being released July 24th in Japan. I'm not sure when its releasing in America, but it looks pretty cool. I wonder what all it will support. It'd be awesome if it supported flash and things like that, but I doubt it will.

It does not support flash: http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/opera/the-limitations-of-opera-ds-183988.php

If I was away from home more often than I am now, I'd probably get it. But I barely bring my DS with me to places, so I won't for now.

you guys hadn't heard?

The best part is, it also comes with a memory expansion pack... I assume that plugs into the GBA slot. And hey, Opera could always add Flash/sound support later.

From what I've read, it stumbles automatically from WAP to WAP, which'll be great... the PSP's internet connectivity is limited to known WAPs as part of "Connections."

I thought the reason they didn't have flash was because of the liscencing thing. Confused

I don't really get why I'll ever use this. I mean, it has to be around my wireless router to get a connection, and if it's near my wireless router I can just use my computer. Anywhere where else that the DS can hook up to will probably have an internet-enabled computer anyway.

I guess if you don't want to use a keyboard that hundreds of other people have used?

I'd probably just get it for the novelty of it. Devastated.

you mean you've never seen a coffee shop or food court? Those are usually wifi hotspots... but you have to bring your own computer, there are none provided.

in fact, it'd be much cheaper for an internet cafe/wifi hotspot to NOT provide computers...

Well, you do what you like. I've found the PSP browser quite useful in the past, and I fully intend to purchase Opera DS.

Example: My sister took me scrapbooking... I thought she meant to buy supplies, but no, they actually provided a room where she sat for three hours and made the scrapbook... and I was stuck there. Luckily, a nearby office had an open WAP... my PSP found it and I even made a few posts here in those three hours.

Example #2: My now ex-girlfriend and I were at a mall, standing outside a movie theater. We had missed the start of the movie we wanted to see by a half-hour, and the next showing was in a long while. So I stepped back into the field of the WAP from the food court, pulled out my PSP, zipped over to Zap2it.com and found out when the movie was playing at other local theaters.

Recently, my sister took me to Panera... and they have a hotspot.
Didn't use it, 'cause I had forgotten my PSP at home, but I could've.

Maybe I find it useful 'cause I don't have the internet on my mobile phone...

It's also useful if you can't or don't feel like accessing a computer. aren't in a room with a computer, and a whole bunch o' other reasons. Not to mention pure awesome. I can't believe it comes with a flash cart! Now I can download dslinux directly to the flash cart with out having to buy all kinds of cables and crap.

Now that you mention it, it would be cool to check the forum and other sites at commercials without having to run upstairs. But Wii comes first. *saves*

Or if you're laying in bed and want to check some interweb.

Psst: If you can download to the flashcart can't you format it for 2tally legal GBA roms?

Unless they have some anti-hacking thing in it, I guess so. But wouldn't you want to use it for any browser updates? I mean, you can already buy a GBA flashcart for "homebrew".

Why not do both? One or two homebrew roms couldn't be that big, especially if they're like GBC homebrews. So you could just use the extra storage for some browser updates.

Edit: Holy fuck. They can probably port an N64 emulator to DSLinux. How FREAKING awesome would that be?

you should read up on DS Linux. With the number of memory management problems they're having, I'll be emulators would be difficult.
