But when the NSA sniper kills him through his holding cell window, the knowledge he gained will be instantly lost. If he goes public with it now, then the government couldn't keep it secret.

Do you really think they'd risk that? They'd definately have to own up to killing him, someone would have to know about it. This guy should totally write a book while in prison (assuming he's foung guilty).

What I don't believe is that he crippled any important defense systems. I mean, what were they doing even connected to the internet? The guy says himself that he's an amateur. That probably means he wasn't going around circumventing firewalls. So, if he -did- cripple any defense systems, they were sitting out on the internet without a firewall. Way to go, US. On the other hand, the US government's security strategy seems to be "we're scary. don't touch our systems or well kick your ass." It seems to be working less and less. US gov't targets used to be avoided like the plague, but lately I've seen them being used for warez distro bots more and more. I guess the "hackers" (read: script kiddies) just don't care that they're gov't boxes anymore... hacks to the government happen all the time. The difference is, this guy got caught. Probably his own fault.
