I remember making a Kirby themed deck using pokemon TCG rules. It ruled.

I don't really remember coming up with any rules or anything... I just recall thinking that it would be a really cool idea. It just seems so obvious to me.

I'm so behind in Yugioh it's not even funny. That's why I just play Nightmare Troubadour.

Anyway, ideas:

1. Different "play mats". Each mat would be a different stage from the game. kind of like an interactive board. So, for Mushroom kingdom, you can use the POW box and etc.

2. Um, character-based decks. Maybe one main character card you move around the stage, and the rest of the cards are different moves/items/etc.

3. The object could be to raise your oppnent's % until you can knock them off the stage. I'm thinking different moves--such as A-up-Smash--would knock them off at different percentages.

Whatchoo think?

I'm thinking a format similar to Pokemon- multiple cards for single characters, each with 2-4 moves from the game. They'd have to somehow factor in how weight would affect how much percentage they can take, but it needs to be less concrete than an HP value. Also, I was thinking that the different arenas would work kinda like Field Cards or Gyms.

I can see multiple character cards, used in a different kind of way. The gym/field cards just sounds too much like Pokemon to me. Confused I mean, it's not like you switch areas when you're playing SSB. Although it's the same case in Pokemon video games..

I don't know.

Devastated.

This should totally be pitched to Nintendo, though. Maybe.

What about this: at the beginning of a game, the players flip a coin. Winner of the coin flip gets to select a card out of his arena deck to play in. The arena card stays in play all game.

why restrict yourself to one arena, though? You do switch arenas in SSB... just... between fights. But perhaps the TCG could more describe one long session of SSB... after all, you're not restricting yourself to one character per game, are you?

I like it. (Mushpie's idea, that is.)

So would the game use Time or Stock? I'm thinking Stock, since it would be more confusing to keep track of who killed who. Unless this isn't going to have more than 2 players.

EDIT: I'm was under the impression that you'd only use one character per battle. And maybe it would work like a match (2 out of 3 for example.) So you could choose a new character/deck each battle.

How about you have a stock of five, and each character in your deck can be played once. You always have one character on the field. One a character on the field dies, the owner loses one stock point. When ever a character dies, the winner gets to change the arena. When some one has suffered five deaths, the winner is decided.

I actually like that idea a lot. That would make it so you'd only really have to make one deck.

So you could have the standard A button cards to use for any character, and then have B cards for specific characters. Or something. Wait, that changes how the format works. I'll just leave that out there anyway.

I like that too, but it sounds a bit similar to Pokemon.

Oh yeah, I didn't think of it that way. Maybe there would just be different variations of the character cards. So each deck would have 3 or 5 of its character to keep track of stock.

I still think seperate attack cards would work best in any case.

This site has a bunch of info that might help figure out stats and stuff: http://smashbros.planets.gamespy.com/

EDIT: Hmm. Maybe gamefaqs articles would be better.

Me and ITS were talking about this in IRC, and this is what we came up with.

(I feel so pathetic talking about a hypothetical card game. Devastated.)

You'd have a "leader" type card, who would be a major character from a franchise, like Mario or Ness. In addition, you have minor subordinate type cards, with stuff like Starmen to Waddle Doos. Subordinate cards have to match the game your leader is from. Heck, maybe every card could have the capacity to be a leader, I dunno.

Anyway, every card would have Smash attacks printed on it. Special attacks, however, have separate cards, that have to be played when their corresponding character is in play. Only leaders can have special cards played on them. They would either be really damaging, or have special effects.

Once your leader dies, so do all of your subordinates (or maybe the other player has to fight through the subordinates to get to your leader?), and you lose a stock. You select a new leader from a seperate leader deck, and start a new round. First to the predertimined number of kills wins.

The only problem I see with this is that large portions of your main deck would be completely useless, because you would have a lot of subordinates and special attacks that aren't compatible with the current leader. Maybe you need a separate deck for each leader?

Maybe there could be generic Special attack cards, which work for multiple characters from a game, but there are also character-specific cards as well, which would do additional effects/damage. So when you change leaders you can just swap the specific cards.

I should get on IRC too. Maybe.

Assuming you're on Chatsociety, what channel are you in? Devastated.

EDIT: Idea! Card Name: [Press Start] Play Press Start during an opponents attack. Flip a coin. If heads, that attack fails. If tails, the attack succeeds and adds 8% damage.

I always hate it when people pause when I'm in the middle of an attack.

I'll probably get on tomorrow, since I must get some sleep.

Also, I'm thinking on how you might move around the stage. Card outlines covering all occupiable (sp?) spaces, perhaps?

Moving around a stage sounds more like a miniatures game than a card game.
