No, ITS is right. He's just being a jerk about it. Virtually every country follows the Gregorian calendar to the point where people are at least aware of what year it is if they don't already use it for practical purposes. Now, culturally, the Chinese would call 2006 year of the dog, just as Jews would say 6/6/06 is 3/10/66.
