Since the topic about Nosferatus problem mainly got into Linux discussion, I decided to make a thread on Demi Sized Linux (also known as Damn Small Linux).

This operating system is kick-ass. I'us it and am doing research on it. It looks really interesting, and I can safely say that I will probably permanently install it on a computer or two.

Can any one tell me if the Live CD would boot load off a Windows 97 computer? My friend has an old windows 97 and we're thinking of putting DSLOS on it.

Windows has nothing to do with it. It depends on whether or not the BIOS can boot from a CD, and if it's set up to do so.

How old is the computer?

And what the heck is Windows 97?

That last comment was a crack at the crap-tacular-nes, right?

Aren't the BIOS affected by the age of the computer?

I'm thinking it came out...some where around the year..... 1997?

and I'm thinking... there was never a released product called Windows 97?

and yes, earlier BIOSes didn't boot from CDs. That's why I asked you the age of the computer.

See, with PCs, the operating system doesn't reflect much at all about the PC itself.

Yes, Windows 98 came out in 1998. That computer however, can be anywhere from 8 to 2 or 4 years old.

Let's clear some things up. DOS is an operating system. A tty, more commonly referred to as a terminal, is the command-line interface you are probably looking at. Type xdm.

Command line, I know. I just refer to it a sa dos interface more times than not.

xdm did nothing.

Did nothing, or command not found? If it did nothing, it probably means X is still running and you need to use the alt+f7 power.

aaanyboo, you can probably install it on your friend's computer... just cross your fingers when it's booting, and if that doesn't work, check the boot priority in setup.

It might not even support booting from CD. I mean, Win98? That's kinda old. The bootable CD thing happened around 1995, so bootable CDs are still older, but might not have made it to that computer...

... yeah, he's not going to know your root password. check the DSL wiki for the defaults. What did I say about getting your own help?

anyway...

I believe my circa-1999 98 machine could boot from CD.
