Let's get some action in these forums, a'ight? A'ight.

Topic at hand - Was Christianity influenced by Pagan religion?

Why am I doing this? Because this is an awesomely interesting topic and I think we can get a fun debate out of it.

If you want to avoid the thread, you can't!

2 links 4 u to gather info:

Pro-Christ:

Let the games begin.

Screw religion, it causes more problems than what it's worth.

I've always found religion to be more a question of faith rather than undesputable logic. I know that sounds odd but I think that's what it all boils down to.
Yeah, we need to get some debate threads going in here. I just don't want any of us to get pissed off and start threatening eachother (as if we don't do that enough anyway).

Yeah, religion does seem to cause quite a lot of trouble. That, of course, is attributed to people's ignorance and their inability to accept possibilities outside of their own opinion.

explain, that'll be interesting!

I mean, it's not like a majority of modern ethics came from religion or anything, right?

It's not like we have wars (pick any), massacres (Darfur, for one), hatred (gays, anybody?), and petty politics (saving lives with science isn't supported by SOME).

Some thoughts.

the bible was written by the same people who thought the earth was flat, the bible is the main driving force behind christianity, the flat earth prose was found to be a farce, so in turn the bible must be........

[this is strictly my opinion]

Douche'.

Mind you, more wars have been simply because of CONQUEST, FAMINE and DESIRE, rather than RELIGION.

And on the other hand, it's not religion that has started these things... think more that it's idiots that use it as an excuse to hide behind. So if religion wasn't there, there would be something else they'd also hide behind. Put it that way.

Religious hatred towards homosexuals seems to be almost strictly in the US. Once again, it's a case of hiding behind rules written by many different authors who contradicted once another all the time, and it's bullshit.

I'm for religion, though I'm not religious myself.

And the Greeks were the first to realize the earth was sphere shaped, but we're not going around praising Zeus, are we?

Christianity was never real, and the guy now worshipped as Jesus Christ was probably a Jewish heretic at best

That's how I feel on the subject.

Anything to back up your thoughts, Millsy? An argument is nothing without evidence.

Douchè.

The problem with religion is that while it can be a good, character-and-moral building thing, it can be used so swiftly and easily for dark purposes.

Also, I likes this song, though Andy's not so happy that it became so big because the message's not sharp enough.

Yeah, you're way too political for your own good. First off, religion is a necessary aspect of life. Second, even if we had none, natural xenophobia would still account for the first three.

Don't believe me?

I don't think any major religion preaches that other ethnic/racial groups are bad... in fact, I think most religions preach that you should be kind to different people.

But the KKK exists. There's no religious backing for what they do, they just hate.

That's funny, I seem to be doing pretty well without it.

As well as all the other athiests in the world, of which there are millions.
