I agree, I think we could all do a lot better in the way of problem-solving than resorting to violence.

However, to simply say "All violence is bad. I refuse to participate." is not just a hopeless ideal. It's irresponsible. For example:

Suppose a murderer sneaks into your house, intent not on murdering you, but on murdering your newborn baby. Assume that this murderer is whacked on rock and a physical confrontation is immenent.

Are you telling me that you would simply refuse to intervene? Allow your child to be butchered because you have a moral conundrum? If you allow another person to be killed when you could have prevented it, you are a murderer yourself.

This is a hypothetical situation, and an extreme one at that. My point is: there is no such thing as an absolute morality.

That makes a lot of sense. I've been trying to figure out about the whole absolute thing a lot, and you know, I can agree with you. I just hope, dearly dearly hope, that I am never in such an extreme situation, and if/when it does, I have the clarity to use know when physical action is necessary .


I'm just nit-picking now, but there are many ways that you could subdue the offender without killing him or putting him through a great amount of pain.
