I actually found this ad pretty offensive when I saw it on Super Bowl Sunday. That is, I wasn't really offended- more shocked at the accidental slap-in-the face-of the- people-they-screwed-over-ness of it.
I think if this were a different car company, one that hasn't so blatantly screwed their employees in the past, the commercial might not be a big deal.

I thought it was also amusing that the robot was losing its job. Robots and technology have eliminated more jobs in the American auto industry than outsourcing has.

Exactly. The fact that it was GM was what made it appalling.

Appalling. Wow. I had no idea a commercial could be appalling.

This is illustrating what I was saying in the other thread. People are way too sensitive.

The commercial itself wasn't appalling.

The fact that GM made it without noticing that it could appear to be a slap in the face to all those people that were fired was appalling.

Quit trying to make me sound like simpering offended weakling. I just think it was a bit insensitive of them. I never said that the commercial shouldn't be shown.

I liked Bowling for Columbine, with one exception: it comes to no conclusions. It merely illustrates that America does, in fact, have a gun violence problem. Of course, finding out why the US has a gun problem is a pretty hefty assignment, and probably there isn't a solid reason for it, so I guess I don't have a very big gripe with the film. Plus, some of the best movies ever have unsatisfying conclusions.

McDonalds and other fast-food people were the ones complaining about the Federline ad, because it portrays employment at their restaurants as a crappy job.

I know that's what they really think, but America's smarter then that. It's already understood by most Americas that fast food is the de-facto job for unskilled labor in this country. It's practically ingrained in our collective consciousness so a commercial isn't going to do anything about it.

Honestly, I'm sticking with the funnier interpretation that they're angry because the commercial implies that fast food restaurants are stupid enough to hire Federline. They have a higher standard then that!

Which is why I said "I'm sticking". I've already mentioned it before.
