yeah, looks like they've found human remains dating to around 195,000 years ago.
Well then, three options are presented to us... either the Bible isn't actually as accurate with the dating as some claim, the Bible is that accurate, but as a mistranslation or metaphor, or the Bible is that accurate, but completely wrong about it.
Fru might be able to enlighten us as to which one is correct.
Either way, the Bible's being inaccurate wouldn't disprove God's existence.
So sorry anyone trying to disprove God, but you can't.
Well... you can try... but this show's existence is much harder evidence that there's no God than any old thing Hubble can discover.

The Bible never explicitly claims that the Earth is 6000 years old. The idea that it is comes from the 17th century Anglican Bishop James Ussher (although there were others who put forth similar ideas before him), who looked at Biblical genealogies as well as some extrabiblical sources to come up with the Creation taking place at sometime in 4004 BC. This is basically the same process that young earth creationists use to come up with their dates, which are fairly similar. Anyway, the Bible isn't as accurate about a lot of things as some people claim.
Also, my daddy is an astronaut. You know, just to stay on topic.

You're right. It's completely impossible that a book written thousands of years ago, and retranslated hundreds of times throughout history could be wrong.

that's not what I said. Based on the premises I outlined, it's impossible to call the entire Bible false, just one "fact" people ascribe to it.

the translations of the bible today are more accurate than they have ever been, since we now understand the original languages considerably better than a lot of earlier translators did.
this applies to practically any ancient text.
