Seconded!
I also love the fully orchestrated version of Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin. | FUN STORY
For the longest time, I waited tables at this supper club. The place was really old, built in the 30's, but it was still fancy enough to require the service to wear neckties.
So, for a long time, I'd stumble up to my downtown studio apartment between midnight and two in the morning, shirt unbuttoned and tie hanging loose, and as I walked to the kitchen to fix myself a drink, I'd hit start on my turntable. The needle would pick up, reach over, and drop down on Rhapsody in Blue.
Absolutely the perfect music for arriving home after work, night time in the city. |

The Fourth Movement of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
I think this piece epitomises the bridge between classical and romantic music. It is truly glorious.
And I think The First Movement of Beethoven's Pathetique Piano Sonata is wonderful too. _________________ |

oh yes, pathetique is incredible
I also give a second nomination to 1812 overture, you know it really is that great no matter how many times you hear it performed. _________________
