And then there's all the doctors in medical research. They don't directly treat a single patient, but they might develop a cure for cancer.
And they want monetary compensation. Loads of it. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

But man is it good. That's a decent life right there. I'd have to find a job I actually enjoy to top that. |

I'd be working for a cure for cancer to, you know, cure it to help people overcome it. I'd probably end up donating the money to a charity.
I'd rather do Environmental Science of some sort (I'd kill somebody with my hands)... cus I like animals. _________________

I have one goal in life: Enjoy myself as much as possible.
Helping others helps me to enjoy myself. But so do plenty of other things. |

I think you guys might be straying from the point a bit too much. In SiCKO, the deal is purely monetary. I would much rather pay taxes for health care than have to pay it up front, since I know everyone would be getting the benefits from that. _________________

I couldn't really find your point. It was sprinkled around the thread and it all seemed kind of stupid to me.
I firmly believe that with universal health care, the sick would benefit and the healthy would have to pay. Of course, the sick would have to pay also, and of course the healthy could easily become sick, so really everyone has to pay and everyone benefits. _________________

The middle class and above can already afford health care. These people will be no better off with universal health care. In fact, they will be worse off.
Why? Our already overcrowded hospitals will be even more crowded. Doctors will make less money for doing more work, which would be a huge boost to their moral. The already overtaxed poor will be paying even more taxes to care for other people. Universal health care has also been proven to get tied up deep into red tape, which means terminally sick people will not get the care they need unless they go to another country and pay out of pocket. The rich will be the only ones able to afford this.
So the rich stay about the same, benefits-wise, as long as they're not adverse to travel. The middle class gets shafted big time, paying more for less. The poor will get a small benefit, yes, but there are a few things to consider.
Under our current system, there already are programs designed to provide (crappy) health care to the people who can't afford it. Also, under our current system, health care is a huge reason to get a good education and a decent career, since almost every business pays for their employees' health care.
Universal health care might work in Europe, but like so many other things that work in the Maine-sized countries over there, it won't work over here. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

The anti- arguments all seem like there's going to be some national epidemic that will infect every American, and since we'd have to treat them all, we can't handle THE PRESSURE!!
