So I saw the first showing at the theatre (12:30). It was great. Sure, it was a bit fluffy on focusing only on the healthcare aspect of other countries and none of their other issues, but it was a tremendous film, and I'm gonna go dismantle our government or move to Europe.

yeah, my co-worker was telling me how bad his canadian relatives had it with their healthcare. He tells me it's fine if you need to get care for broken bones and stuff, but if you need major surgery, you're probably going to die before the paperwork goes through. He also told me about some companies in the US whose entire business model is importing canadian patients to have work done, paying out of pocket, simply because they can't wait for the canadian government to process their request to have surgery.

Privatized health care wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so greedy about it. If we could get politicians who wouldn't take the HMOs' money, or wealthy counter-lobbyists who would pay politicians for being for national health care...
whatever. We don't need national health care, we just need the threat of it to scare the HMOs into getting into line.
Or just read your contract very carefully, know your rights, and when they pull stupid crap, sue.

I prefer privatized. If we had honest HMOs, it'd be better... if only because the government beaurocrats couldn't get their grubby hands into the health insurance money and use it to buy cars.
Too bad that's what HMO higher-ups do anyway Sad

I mean.. that's what health insurance is... it's supposed to be a bank. You give them money in case you need it for medical care... and they lend you money if you go over what you've already paid, to be paid back with your insurance payments.

If only they worked that way... where they'd just pay for whatever medical procedure you want until you've hit a credit limit, with special cases made if you absolutely need the care. Instead it's just "we're not paying for this" and "we're not paying for that."

I mean, if you've already given them more money than it's going to take for them to pay the bill for something, then why should they have any problem paying it?
